Dugglethorpe

Here are a few pictures of my 'OO' gauge layout which I am building in the loft. Dugglethorpe is supposed to be a medium sized town somewhere in the North East of England between York and Middlesborough around the late 1970's to early 1980's, however some much later period trains seem to appear mysteriously at times!

The total size of the layout is approximately 22' x 12', and runs around the outside of the loft space which I have converted and 'spruced up'. It basically consists of a large double oval with one side having the majority of the operational track, within the station area. A track plan can be found here. Three sides of the layout will be fully detailed with scenery and the final side is just for the storage of the stock in sidings. The long side of the layout has an MPD at one end, the station and main street in the centre with a industrial area at the other end. One end of the layout runs alongside an embankment with terraced house backs and then underneath a shopping area which will eventually have a market. The other end is a country scene with the tracks running over a canal. I'm trying to place natural scenic breaks at each corner to separate them and give some illusion of distance.

Scenery has never been my strong point and as such not much progress has been made! In other words nothing is finished in the photos below, most have only basic scenery completed or a rough start made.

I use the ZTC DCC system with a variety of decoders in my stock (Lenz, Digitrax, TCS, and ZTC), more details of which can be found here. I have also converted the majority of my stock to use Kadee couplings, I've put a page here with what couplers I have used on different stock. Both of these have really increased my enjoyment of what was already a great hobby, and I can wholeheartedly recommend both systems to anybody.

Details and pictures of my locomotive fleet can be found here, and likewise of my DMU fleet can be found here.

It's still early days and I don't seem to have as much time as I would like to do what I want, the same as everybody. So it's going fairly slowly still. It seems all that it has been used for lately is running trains!
